Douglas along with various collaborateurs presents the story of Patrice de McMahon 1808 – 1893, un soldat extraordinaire et un des maçons de la democratie française.

Directions: Please note the change of venue.

Instead of our usual venue this talk will take place, close to The Dark Horse, in The New Orpheus. Access is via the stairs at the entrance to The Harp Bar or using the lift at the other end of The Harp Bar.

Topic: Inside and Out: Post-impressionism and the Modern City

Speaker: Dickon HALL

Looking at the use and meaning of the interior in post-impressionist art in France and how the relationship between art, modern life and urbanisation is explored in changes between the spaces depicted by impressionist and post-impressionist painters. A wide range of artists will be discussed, including Edouard Vuillard, Georges Seurat and Maurice Denis.

Nuit de la lecture 

Following on from last year’s success, the Cercle français de Belfast is delighted to once again be taking part in the Nuit de la lecture, an annual worldwide celebration of French language and literature organised by the French Ministry for Culture.  
Come and join us for a relaxed and informal afternoon of games, reading and discussion about French language and literature. The event is open to anyone who loves the French language, from beginner to advanced learners of French, as well as native speakers.

• Sunday 19 January 2019, 3pm-6pm
• Book Bar in the Accidental Theatre, 12-13 Shaftesbury Square, Belfast, BT2 7DB
• Free entry (if possible, please bring along a book to swap). You also have the option to make a voluntary donation of £2 when you book.

La Fête des Rois 2020

The Christmas holidays may have come to an end but you can still enjoy the festive spirit by joining in the Cercle Français de Belfast's celebration of La Fête des Rois.

This year our Fête des Rois Bal musette will be held on Wednesday 8^th January 2020  at 19h30 in The Dark Horse Coffee House 

While this event is free for members, guests will be asked to make a contribution of £5.

Registration:

La Fête des Rois is one of the most popular events in our programme. Indeed in the last few years we have come very close to exceeding the legal capacity of The Dark Horse Café. So, once again this year, in order that we ‘stay legal’ and to ensure that everyone has a good time attendance will be limited to a maximum of 80 and we are asking folk to register in advance.

Arrangements are very much the same as last year.

1 We are asking anyone who is coming on 8^th January to register by Tuesday 7^th January 2020.

2 As last year 'tickets' will not be issued but your name will be added to a register which will be checked at the door on the evening. Thus ensuring entry to the event.

To register please send an email to cfbelfast@gmail.com by 8^th January.

You will receive an email acknowledging your registration.

Once we reach the capacity of The Dark Horse registration will be closed.

Remember it’s first come first served and many members have already registered so, to avoid disappointment, register as soon as possible.
